The distance sensor consists of a plate with tw cylinders representing the loudspeaker and the microphone. The paper sheet is represented as a thin box. The color of this box can be modified as a paper with a new color is inserted into the system in the real world and its position can be updated when the distance to the distance sensor changes.

Creating the virtual world

The virtual world we want to create will show the ultra-sonic sensor and the paper we hold in front of it. The paper color in the virtual world should reflect the paper color in the real world and the paper distance to the distance sensor should also be the same in the real and the virtual world.

The virtual world is composed of 3d objects which cab easily be created with the vpython library.

The distance sensor consists of a plate with tw cylinders representing the loudspeaker and the microphone. The paper sheet is represented as a thin box. The color of this box can be modified as a paper with a new color is inserted into the system in the real world and its position can be updated when the distance to the distance sensor changes.

Before animating we must creat the scene. The below screen dump shows how this can look like.
